Astronomy measures the sky
Astronomy studies celestial objects and physical processes using observations, mathematical models, and testable explanations. Planetary positions, lunar phases, and apparent retrograde motion are astronomical quantities that can be calculated and compared with observations.
Astrology interprets symbols
Astrology assigns symbolic meaning to celestial positions and cycles. It includes multiple historical and modern traditions. Its interpretive claims about personality or events should not be confused with the measured accuracy of the planetary positions used to construct a chart.
Precision does not prove meaning
A longitude printed to several decimal places can be numerically precise while a statement attached to it remains an interpretation. Better ephemerides improve the calculation; they do not by themselves validate a horoscope’s psychological or predictive claims.
How this site separates them
The sky tools show calculated positions and explain their coordinate conventions. The learning library describes astrological symbolism as symbolism. Readings and reflective exercises are presented for exploration and entertainment, not as scientific assessments of an individual.
A constructive way to engage
Enjoy the history, imagery, and questions if they are useful to you, while keeping factual claims open to verification. You do not need to accept a prediction to learn how a chart is constructed or to appreciate the actual motion of the Moon and planets.
This guide describes symbolic conventions and traditions. Astrological interpretations are not scientifically established predictions about personality or events. Our sources and editorial approach.
